Re-Engineering the Future: Meet the WeSTEM+ Co-founders
WeSTEM+ is celebrating its anniversary with initiatives that spotlight engineering, mentorship, and community empowerment.
October 20, 2025

Vasiliki Moschou President, and Alexandra Nastase, Vice President of WeSTEM+ , sat down with Melody Chang , Partnership Lead and volunteer at WeSTEM+ , also Director at kShutt
WeSTEM+: What inspired the Re:Engineered 2025 event, and why is it important?
Vasiliki: “Luxembourg’s demand for engineers is growing, but we’ve noticed a skills gap. This year’s anniversary event Re:Engineered 2025 celebrates the impact our community has made while inspiring future innovators. It demonstrates the importance of inclusivity, mentorship, and hands-on engagement.”
Alexandra: “As engineers, we know the satisfaction of designing, building, and delivering something tangible. Re:Engineered 2025 aims to demystify engineering careers, showing the range from software and data engineering to mechanical and high-performance computing roles, so participants can make informed career decisions.
The event also highlights collaboration with our sponsors PwC Luxembourg, Ministère de l’Économie – Luxembourg, and Foyer Group who support our mission. Together, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive STEM ecosystem in Luxembourg.”
WeSTEM+: How is engineering different from tech, and why does this matter?
Alexandra: “Engineering is practical and system-oriented. It emphasizes systems thinking, iteration, and scalability—turning concepts into reliable real-world solutions. Tech can be more theoretical, whereas engineering requires attention to detail, problem-solving at a systems level, and the ability to implement concepts.”
Vasiliki: “Developing an engineering mindset takes practice. Hands-on work and mentorship from experienced engineers are essential for growth.”
WeSTEM+: What can attendees expect from the anniversary event?
Vasiliki: “We focus on real needs in the community. We look at where there are gaps—skills, exposure, confidence—and design initiatives to bridge them. Our programs are not just about teaching technical skills; they’re about mentorship, personal growth, and empowering people to take charge of their careers.”
Alexandra: “Another unique aspect is that our volunteers and mentors are in the driver’s seat. They help design and run activities, from workshops for kids and teenagers to professional programs for women in STEM. This creates a truly collaborative environment where everyone can contribute meaningfully.”

WeSTEM+: What role do volunteers and mentors play?
Vasiliki: “Volunteers are the unsung heroes of WeSTEM+. They organize programs, run workshops, and support operations. Mentors provide guidance on projects and careers, helping participants build confidence and skills. At Re:Engineered 2025, their dedication ensures that engineers and STEM enthusiasts can fully engage with hands-on activities, networking, and learning opportunities.”
Alexandra: “Every contribution matters, whether behind the scenes or in direct mentoring. Their efforts enable programs to run smoothly while remaining inclusive and accessible. For this engineering event, our mentors, collaborators, and supporters play a pivotal role in creating a vibrant, inspiring environment where participants can explore new ideas and grow their technical skills.”
WeSTEM+: How do you ensure inclusivity and accessibility for WeSTEM+ programs?
Alexandra: “We focus on anonymized, motivation-based selection, prioritizing attitude and potential rather than background. For those not selected, we encourage them to apply again and keep improving—persistence pays off.
For Re:Engineered 2025, this means creating opportunities for aspiring engineers from all walks of life to participate in hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions, ensuring everyone can access the resources and connections they need to thrive in STEM.”
Vasiliki: “We also create a safe learning environment through workshops, mentorship, and community activities, where participants can learn, make mistakes, and grow.
At this engineering-focused event, we complement that by providing structured mentorship, collaborative project sessions, and support from industry professionals, so participants feel empowered to experiment, innovate, and build confidence in their technical skills.”
WeSTEM+: Any advice for young women considering an engineering career?
Alexandra: “Believe in yourself and pursue what you love. Don’t let stereotypes define your path. Engineering is for anyone curious, creative, and passionate about solving problems. Believe in your potential, seek mentorship, and embrace learning opportunities—even if they push you out of your comfort zone.”
Vasiliki: “Engage with mentorship, volunteer opportunities, and practical projects. Hands-on experience, community support, and perseverance are key to thriving in engineering. And remember, mistakes are part of the journey. Every challenge is a chance to grow. Surround yourself with supportive mentors and peers, take hands-on opportunities, and stay curious. Engineering is about building, experimenting, and iterating—both in your work and in your career.”
