From AI-Augmented Security to Security designed for the AI Era

March 31, 2026

After more than 35 years in operation, Trend Micro is turning a significant page in its history. The company has decided to change its name to TrendAI™. Far more than a cosmetic exercise, this rebranding reflects a deep strategic shift, driven by a resolutely AI-first positioning and aligned with one of the most profound technological transformations of our time.

Artificial intelligence is not simply another technology layer enhancing existing systems. It has become foundational infrastructure. It reshapes IT architectures, redefines business processes, accelerates innovation cycles, and radically transforms the threat landscape. In this context, cybersecurity can no longer be designed according to traditional models. Trend Micro has chosen to fully embrace this transformation. For the enterprise market, the company now operates under the name TrendAI™.

A natural next chapter

For Nadine Serneels, Country Director Belux, the move is not a rupture, but an evolution. “TrendAI™ is the natural next chapter in the evolution of Trend Micro, a company that has been shaping cybersecurity for more than 35 years. Over that time, we’ve continuously evolved alongside major technology shifts from the rise of the internet and cloud computing to today’s AI-driven digital economy.”

While the company has navigated multiple waves of transformation in the past, the rise of AI represents something more fundamental. “What has changed most fundamentally in recent years is the role of artificial intelligence. AI is no longer an add-on or an optimization layer; it has become foundational to how modern platforms operate and how cyber threats are created and executed.”

Internally, this shift has already been underway for several years. AI is embedded across the company’s enterprise platform — from threat intelligence to detection, prevention and response. “The rebranding to TrendAI™ reflects this reality. It is not a break from our heritage, but a way to align our brand with who we are today: a modern, AI-first security platform company, built on decades of trusted expertise and designed to secure the AI era with confidence.”

A technological disruption that justifies the name change

Why change the name of a globally recognized brand? According to TrendAI™, the scale of disruption demands a clear signal. “AI represents a true technological disruption in cybersecurity — both in how attacks are launched and in how organizations must defend themselves,” says Nadine Serneels. “Threat actors are already using AI to automate reconnaissance, scale phishing campaigns, and accelerate attack cycles.”

At the same time, enterprises are deploying AI across operations,  applications and cloud environments, creating entirely new attack surfaces. “Because AI is now infrastructure, security must be designed for AI from the ground up. Our enterprise platform has already evolved to meet that challenge, but the Trend Micro brand  no longer fully captured this shift. TrendAI™ makes our focus explicit:  we are leading the AI security category, not just using AI as a feature.”

“We aim to enable organizations to innovate with AI fearlessly, knowing security is built in, not bolted on later.” says Stefaan Van Hoornick Head of Solutions Engineering BeLux

Protecting against AI and securing AI

Artificial intelligence creates a dual challenge for organizations. It dramatically accelerates innovation while simultaneously increasing  complexity and exposure to risk. “AI introduces a dual challenge,” explains Stefaan Van Hoornick, Head of Solutions Engineering BeLux.

“On one hand, it dramatically accelerates innovation. On the other, it expands the attack surface through AI models, data pipelines, APIs, cloud environments, and even employee AI usage.”

Organizations must now secure entire AI journeys – from development to deployment and production. “Enterprises must protect not just systems, but entire AI journeys, from development to production.”

This requires a broader and more integrated security approach. “At TrendAI™, we address this by embedding AI-driven protection across the full environment. Our platform centralizes visibility, predicts attack paths, and prioritizes risk based on real-world impact. This allows customers to move from reactive security to proactive cyber risk management, even as their environments grow more complex.”

The objective, he adds, is clear:
“Enable organizations to innovate with AI fearlessly, knowing security is built in, not bolted on later.”

A Unified Plat form Powerhouse

The rebranding reflects the maturity of a long-term strategy focused on platform consolidation. TrendAI™ Vision One™ stands as the centerpiece of this evolution. “We have moved beyond fragmented tools to a fully integrated reality,” explains Stefaan Van Hoornick.

“TrendAI™ Vision One™ provides an AI-powered platform that unifies everything from cyber risk exposure management and security operations to cloud, endpoint, and AI security within a single architecture.”

This platform approach responds to concrete market challenges: lack of visibility because of tool sprawl, cybersecurity skills shortages, and growing pressure to demonstrate measurable outcomes. At the same time, expertise is shifting in scope. “Our expertise is evolving from traditional threat prevention to helping customers understand, prioritize, and reduce cyber risk at scale. This includes securing AI applications, cloud-native environments, and complex
hybrid infrastructures, areas where AI is both a driver of innovation and a source of risk.”

Security, in this vision, becomes outcome-driven and aligned with business resilience.

Defining the AI security category

“Our ambition is clear: to become number one in AI security and to own and define the complete cyber security landscape” says Nadine Serneels.
“TrendAI™ is not positioning itself as just another vendor, but as the strategic partner organizations rely on to secure their digital future.”

In a world where AI increasingly determines competitive advantage, security cannot be a brake on innovation. “We aim to lead the market in proactive security, helping customers reduce cyber risk before incidents occur while enabling innovation rather than slowing it down.

This repositioning is about confidence, clarity, and leadership in a world where AI will define competitive advantage.”

Luxembourg as a high-expectation reference market

Luxembourg plays a strategic role in this evolution. “Luxembourg is a strategically important market for TrendAI™, because it sits at the crossroads of advanced digital innovation, strict regulation, and a strong culture of trust,” Nadine Serneels explains.

The country hosts a dense ecosystem of financial institutions, digital service providers and international organizations, many of them early adopters of AI and subject to some of the most demanding regulatory frameworks in Europe. “This creates a strong need for platformbased security that offers visibility across environments, proactive risk management, and clear alignment with regulatory obligations such as NIS2 and DORA.”

For TrendAI™, building strong partnerships in Luxembourg is therefore not only about local growth, but about demonstrating leadership in one of Europe’s most demanding and forward-looking security environments.

The transition from Trend Micro to TrendAI™ therefore goes far beyond branding. It signals a strategic repositioning in a market where artificial intelligence simultaneously reshapes threats, architectures and business models.

By explicitly anchoring its identity in AI, TrendAI™ is making a statement: the era of security merely augmented by AI is over. What lies ahead is security designed for the AI era and the company intends to play a defining role in shaping it.
