Initiated by international standardisation bodies, World Standards Day highlights the importance of technical standardisation and in particular the collaborative efforts behind the development of standards. By joining this global initiative, ILNAS and the University of Luxembourg aim to spotlight the role of standards in advancing sustainable development, while exploring the connections between standardisation, education, research and innovation. The event will also include the presentation of the “ILNAS Standardisation & Innovation Award”.

In this context, Mr. Jérôme Petry, Director of Circular Economy and Clean Technologies at the Ministry of Economy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, will open the first session, dedicated to the theme of sustainable development. He will highlight the strategic role of standardisation in supporting both economic growth and sustainability at the national level. This will be followed by the presentation of the new ILNAS report on technical standardisation in the field of sustainable development, to be published on the day of the event. This publication provides a comprehensive overview of how standards contribute to key areas of national interest: hydrogen, mobility, construction, environmental management, circular economy, energy efficiency, information and communication technologies. etc.

The second part of the event will focus on education in standardisation, as well as the links between standardisation, research, and innovation. It will be launched by Ms. Andreea Gulacsi, Director of Policy and External Affairs at CEN and CENELEC, who will share the vision of the two European standardisation bodies on these topics. This second part of the event will also be an opportunity for the University of Luxembourg and ILNAS to look back on their various fruitful collaborations, which have made it possible, on the one hand, to strengthen the links between standardisation and research, particularly through the different ILNAS/University of Luxembourg research programs, and, on the other hand, to develop standardisation education at the national level with the establishment of the MTECH “Technopreneurship” Master program. Future visions and projects in these two domains will also be presented, namely through the reveal of the new “Policy for Education and Research in Technical Standardisation (2025-2030)”.

As a closing highlight, ILNAS will present the ILNAS Standardisation & Innovation Award, which promotes best practices related to the use of standards in innovative projects.

All attendees will be warmly invited to a cocktail reception, an opportunity to share experiences and foster meaningful exchanges. This is also a way of thanking all those involved in technical standardisation in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
