SUMMARY:Green ICT for a Sustainable Digital Future
DESCRIPTION:The rapid development of digital technologies has led to a growing awareness of their environmental impact. Green ICT refers to an approach aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of information and communication technologies (ICT) throughout their entire lifecycle\, from the design of equipment to its end-of-life\, including energy consumption and the optimization of digital infrastructures and services. In this context\, technical standardization plays an essential role. It provides a structured framework for defining common requirements\, harmonizing practices\, promoting interoperability\, and supporting the implementation of more sustainable digital solutions. \nTo raise awareness among national stakeholders regarding standardization in the field of Green ICT\, ILNAS is organizing two complementary events: \n\nIntroduction to the topic\n\nApril 30\, 2026\, from 12:30 to 13:30 – Webinar “Lunch Talks –  Sustainability meets standardization – Zoom on Green ICT”. \nAs part of the webinar series “Lunch Talks – Sustainability meets standardization”\, the third session\, organized in English\, will focus on the topic of Green ICT. \nIt will be based in particular on the results of the standardization analysis related to sustainable development published by ILNAS in 2025\, in order to illustrate the main standardization challenges linked to sustainable digital technologies. \nThis webinar will address the following topics: \n\nthe challenges and the relevant European regulations\,\nthe relevant technical standardization committees\,\nthe standards relevant to this field.\n\nRegistration is free but required in order to receive the access link. \nWEBINAR REGISTRATION  \n  \n\nFurther exploration of the topic\n\nJune 1\, 2026\, from 10:00 to 12:00 – Awareness session “Green ICT and technical standardization”. \nThis extended session\, held in English\, at the ILNAS premises\, aims to complement the webinar by offering a more detailed analysis of the role of technical standardization in the field of Green ICT. \nThe session will enable participants to: \n\nbetter understand the environmental challenges associated with ICT throughout its lifecycle\,\nrecognize the role of technical standardization in supporting sustainability\, interoperability\, and best practices\,\nexamine in more detail certain technical standardization committees involved and their ongoing work\,\nlearn about existing standards related to Green ICT.\n\n  \nThis session will further explore some of the developments identified in the ILNAS standardization analysis\, with a specific focus on several key technical committees and standards in the field.
