The rapid development of digital technologies has led to a growing awareness of their environmental impact. Green ICT refers to an approach aimed at reducing the environmental footprint of information and communication technologies (ICT) throughout their entire lifecycle, from the design of equipment to its end-of-life, including energy consumption and the optimization of digital infrastructures and services. In this context, technical standardization plays an essential role. It provides a structured framework for defining common requirements, harmonizing practices, promoting interoperability, and supporting the implementation of more sustainable digital solutions.

To raise awareness among national stakeholders regarding standardization in the field of Green ICT, ILNAS is organizing two complementary events:

  • Introduction to the topic

April 30, 2026, from 12:30 to 13:30 – Webinar Lunch Talks –  Sustainability meets standardization – Zoom on Green ICT.

As part of the webinar series “Lunch Talks – Sustainability meets standardization”, the third session, organized in English, will focus on the topic of Green ICT.

It will be based in particular on the results of the standardization analysis related to sustainable development published by ILNAS in 2025, in order to illustrate the main standardization challenges linked to sustainable digital technologies.

This webinar will address the following topics:

  • the challenges and the relevant European regulations,
  • the relevant technical standardization committees,
  • the standards relevant to this field.

Registration is free but required in order to receive the access link.

  • Further exploration of the topic

June 1, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00 – Awareness session “Green ICT and technical standardization”.

This extended session, held in English, at the ILNAS premises, aims to complement the webinar by offering a more detailed analysis of the role of technical standardization in the field of Green ICT.

The session will enable participants to:

  • better understand the environmental challenges associated with ICT throughout its lifecycle,
  • recognize the role of technical standardization in supporting sustainability, interoperability, and best practices,
  • examine in more detail certain technical standardization committees involved and their ongoing work,
  • learn about existing standards related to Green ICT.

This session will further explore some of the developments identified in the ILNAS standardization analysis, with a specific focus on several key technical committees and standards in the field. More information about this session is available on the event page.
