SUMMARY:AI Technologies: Overhyped\, imperative or real opportunity? – Register now for the Journée de l’Économie 2025
DESCRIPTION:Organised by the Ministry of the Economy\, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce\, FEDIL – The Voice of Luxembourg’s Industry and IDEA\, in cooperation with PwC Luxembourg\, this year’s edition of the Journée de l’Économie (JEcolux 2025) encourages discussion on the topic “Is AI simply overhyped\, an essential driver of progress\, or a real opportunity for transformative change?” Registrations for the Journée de l’Économie 2025\, taking place in the form of a physical event at the Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg on 24 March 2025\, are now open. \nArtificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly evolved in recent years\, with remarkable developments across various fields. These rapid advancements have sparked a global dialogue\, with opinions ranging from enthusiastic endorsement to cautious scepticism. \nAI technologies are reshaping industries and transforming numerous sectors\, with their influence steadily growing in everyday life. However\, as these technologies continue to expand\, they also raise critical questions about their true impact on businesses and economies. Does AI genuinely drive economic growth and innovation? Is Luxembourg\, with its strong financial sector and emerging tech ecosystem\, well positioned to explore and capitalise on AI’s potential? What does the future hold for AI adoption and regulation in Luxembourg and on the global stage? \nJoin us on 24 March 2025\, at the Journée de l’Économie held at the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce where\, together\, we’ll ask: Is AI simply overhyped\, an essential driver of progress\, or a real opportunity for transformative change? \nThroughout the conference\, we will delve into the impact of AI across various sectors\, with a particular emphasis on the role of governments. We will also explore how Luxembourg and Europe can achieve their digital ambitions. \nThe event will feature dynamic discussions where market experts will examine the benefits and challenges of AI and emerging technologies on businesses\, as well as on energy and digital transition\, sharing insights on how these new technologies can transform the economic landscape. \nTo register or discover more information\, click here. \n  \nProgramme and speakers\nAs every year\, this unique event will bring together economists\, members of the Luxembourg government – including Lex Delles\, the Minister of the Economy\, SME\, Energy\, and Tourism \n– as well as many representatives of the private sector to explore the potential\, challenges\, and implications of AI for businesses and our economy. \nWe are also delighted to welcome renowned keynote speakers who will share their views with us. \nAmong the distinguished speakers\, we will have the privilege of listening to: \nMrs Nadia Calviño\, President of the European Investment Bank Group\, will address a keynote speech and explain the role of financial institutions in driving digital transformation. Mrs Calviño is a Spanish economist and lawyer with a prominent career as civil servant and politician in the Spanish government and the European Commission. \nProf. Philippe Aghion\, Economist\, will explore the question\, “Should we fear AI?”. A professor at the Collège de France\, INSEAD\, and the London School of Economics\, as well as a fellow of the Econometric Society and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences\, his research focuses on the economics of innovation and growth. A pioneer of the Schumpeterian Growth Theory – now a leading paradigm for analysing the interplay between growth\, innovation\, market structure\, and firm dynamics – he has received numerous awards throughout his career\, including the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in March 2020\, shared with Peter Howitt\, for their work on an economic growth theory based on innovation driven by the process of creative destruction. \nDr Luc Julia\, Chief Scientific Officer at Renault Group\, will address the provocative question\, “GenAI: myth or reality?” One of the designers of the Siri voice assistant and a co-founder of several Silicon Valley startups\, Dr Julia is also the author of the best-selling book “There is no such thing as Artificial Intelligence” (published in 2020). Recognised as one of the top 100 most influential French developers in the digital world\, he holds dozens of patents and continues to shape the field of AI innovation. \nTo find out more about the event\, visit our website: www.jecolux.lu. \nThis year\, the Journée de l’Économie will start at noon with a walking lunch until 13:30\, the conference will follow with guest speakers and panel discussions throughout the afternoon from 13:30 until 17:45\, and close with a networking cocktail from 17:45 until 19:00. The conference will be held in English. \n  \nSupporting MEC asbl \nAs always\, the proceeds from the registration will be entirely donated to a deserving organisation\, i.e. MEC asbl. Registration fees for the conference amount to 70 euros. \nAbout the conference  \nSince 2007\, the Journée de l’Économie has been organised every year\, assembling a community of entrepreneurs\, leaders\, institutional administrators\, politicians and decision-makers from Luxembourg and the Greater Region. This conference presents an opportunity to explore the possibilities\, challenges\, and strategies that will define Luxembourg’s competitiveness in the face of global change.Over the years\, this conference has come to constitute one of the key events of Luxembourg’s corporate agenda. \nThe collaborators \nThe success of the Journée de l’Économie is to a large degree due to the dedicated involvement of its four main organisers: the Ministry of Economy\, the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce\, FEDIL – The Voice of Luxembourg’s Industry and IDEA. The contribution of private collaborators such as PwC Luxembourg has also considerably contributed to the conference’s distinction and renown. \nWe hope to see you at the Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg on 24 March. Don’t miss this opportunity to network with peers\, gain valuable insights\, and contribute to the conversation about the future of our economy. \nClick here for the detailed agenda and complete list of speakers and mark your calendars!
